Environmental sustainability is at the heart of what LOFT does. From our commitment to protecting trees for every piece of furniture sold, to diverting 98% of our waste from landfill. We recognise that we have a responsibility to conserve natural resources and protect global ecosystems wherever possible. LOFT’s Sustainability Initiatives >

Environmental consciousness also extends throughout the entire LOFT supply chain.

We continually monitor our supply chain, procurement and QC to make sure our furniture reflects the overall LOFT “People First, Planet First” ethos - but there is always more that can be done. This blog explores how the LOFT supply chain is continually improving to reduce our carbon emissions and how we’re taking steps to achieve even more...

Recycled furniture

At LOFT, we work with our suppliers to utilise new eco-friendly materials. From fabrics made from sea waste to products made from recycled plastics, we love to champion innovative furniture with green credentials.

This starts with the raw materials. We want to ensure the products we sell have as minimal environmental impact as possible, which is why we have moved to FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) timber and BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) cotton.
It also reflects what we look for in a product. One of our signature mattress collections - the “Regenerate collection” - is made of 95% recycled materials. Available as a pocket sprung, open coil or foam mattress, there is a recycled mattress for everyone!

The Regenerate Mattress has the additional benefit of being made in the United Kingdom, leading us to our next commitment…

Shop local & independent

Where possible, LOFT chooses furniture which is manufactured in the UK.  For example, the new collection of the Alix, Avi and Myla dining chairs are manufactured in northern England.

When it’s not possible to manufacture furniture locally, LOFT works with suppliers to ensure the most effective ways of shipping are used to reduce the number of containers it takes to bring the furniture to the UK.

We use OOCL’s shipping line, as their ETA erosion is on average 3 days, rather than the 30+ days that are experienced with other shipping lines. We’ve worked with several trusted freight forwarders which ensures reliability while maximising our vessel/container availability.

Factory audits

When it comes to the factories which produce LOFT furniture, we only work with selected factories which meet SMETA standards (SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit) as well as our own elevated standards, such as factories which prioritise the protection of the environment. We regularly audit our suppliers to ensure they are meeting these requirements.

Sustainability, purpose and people over profits

These are just a handful of the ways LOFT champions the environment through our supply chain. Through our long-term relationships with factories and freight companies, we’re able to work with trusted suppliers who we know have shared values.

Though there is still more which can be done, making conscious decisions and having concrete aims, is the best way to move in the right direction. Find out more about our other environmental initiatives, including how we’ve protected over 500,000 trees, and what our next plans are...
